Roadside assistance workers to be trained on current electric car models

SOS International is training its network of roadside assistance personnel on current electric car models. A high skills level and the latest know-how for electric cars is essential to ensure the best customer experience, says SOS International.

Electrification is one of the mega trends the car industry is working with currently. In its role as a roadside assistance provider to insurance companies and car manufacturers, SOS International needs to be aware of the latest trends and technologies, including for electric cars:

“We supply the best service to our customers by always having the latest know-how, and by a constant training programme to put our skills and expertise into practice”, says Jeppe Damgaard, Technical Manager at SOS International in Denmark.

“New electric models are constantly being launched on the market, which means that the need for and nature of the assistance we provide is changing. By training our network on current electric car models, we ensure a high skills level, to enable us to get the electric car back on the road quickly and safely”, says Jeppe Damgaard.

Training on current electric car models
No less than 60 employees from SOS International's roadside assistance network in Denmark, SOS Dansk Autohjælp, have been on a training course, along with a team from the alarm centre, at one of SOS International's customers with electric car models on the market.

They were trained in everyday scenarios such as starting and incorrect fuelling of hybrid cars and given insight into the technology and high voltage components of electric cars. The roadside assistance workers trained on the “new” types of assistance, such as a charging cable locked in place.

The focus for the technical alarm team was on ‘help on the phone’. When providing help on the phone, the alarm centre advises the motorist on how to fix a problem themselves to get them back on the road.

All operators receive safety training on electric cars
SOS International is also training its roadside assistance network on safe handling of crashed electric or hybrid cars.

There can be a serious safety risk involved if an roadside assistance worker is not equipped to deal with an electric car that has been in a crash, and SOS International believes it is important that safety for its network is prioritised.
